In my researched I discovered a genre and some sub-genres that I find fitting for a production trailer.
I've also researched most popular genres by looking at the market share of each genre. The most popular film genre is Adventure following by Comedy and Action. Adventure got $42,584,413,576 overall. In 2016 charts, the most popular film trending in Action section at the moment is Warcraft: The Beginning with 7.5 stars out of 10 judging by this site - http://www.imdb.com/genre/action/?ref_=gnr_mn_ac_mp. However, the top grossing adventure movies ranging from 1995 - 2016 are two Star Wars movies followed by the Avengers. As stated by the imdb.com, the second best action/adventure film trending is Now You See me 2 followed by Zootopia (Zootropolis). For comedy, How Grinch Stole Christmas was in the first place followed by Despicable Me 2 and Meet the Fockers.
This is a good sign for small budget movies, as they can reach a profitable state by having a good plot to keep their viewers interested. Few of the successful movies that got one of the biggest returns in investment include; Finding Dory and Central Intelligence.
However, I've chosen to head more towards Thriller/Horror and Paranoid/Philosophical Fiction which isn't as popular as Adventure and Comedy. Adventure films require a lot of budget meaning that it would be incredibly hard for me to pull it off using props I already have. On the other hand, Thriller and Horror are in the top 10 of the most popular movie genres meaning that the plot could be interesting enough to work with. Best Philosophical films get good ratings as the plot isn't usually cliche and Paranoid/Philosophical Fiction is usually mixed with Horror and Thriller films. One example of a low budget Science fiction/ Horror would be the Cube (1997), it was shot with a hand held camera and it has an interesting plot because the characters were named after prisons to reflect the prisons themselves. Most of the film was shot in a claustrophobic room that resembles the 'cube' meaning that the film makers did not spend a lot of budget into the environment. Overall, I believe I will be doing Philosophical Thriller.
